Learn String Handling And Array In C

In the wake of experiencing the control flow statements, presently you're needed to think about Arrays and String Handling in C. Exactly, an array is an assortment of information that holds a set number of estimations of a similar kind while Strings are really a one-dimensional array of characters ended by an invalid character '\0'. You need to see how to proclaim an Array and access its components, what are string library functions, multidimensional arrays, and other applicable themes.
 Explore Functions In C

When you'll complete the previously mentioned topics, presently you need to think about the mainstay of the C programming language. A Function is a square of code that plays out a particular task or calculation. You need to think about client characterized and function models in C, standard library functions, function calling – call by reference and call by value and different others. In the interim, you're likewise needed to experience a few other vital topics, for example, recursion, and storage class, and so on to comprehend the Functions in C adequately.
Find Out About Pointers, Unions, And Structures,

Alright, we should plunge further into the universe of C programming with some more top to bottom ideas like Structures, Pointers, Unions, and some more. To put it plainly, a Pointer is a variable that stores the location of another variable or a memory area. Also, Structures, Enum, Union, and so on are the client characterized information type having their own determinations and functionalities. You need to think about how to declare and initialize Pointers, Double Pointer, how to define Structure and Union, and other related ideas.

IT security risk management

You will have to rely on expert opinion to estimate the cost or risk and the level of reduction. However, this does not mean you need to just guess. There is a two-way approach to avoiding guesses:
Learn from inside. Learn from your business risk management process, and try to be consistent with it. You’ll need to establish a connection with the C-suite in order to do this, and you’ll need their input on the estimated losses.
Learn from the outside. See if there is a relevant CISO group or forum you can join to learn from the experience of other companies. Another good source is industry research, such as the “Cost of Data Breach Report” by the Ponemon Institute, sponsored by IBM.

Don’t overcomplicate this — agree on an approach and use it consistently. After a few quarters, you will be able to see (and prove) trends and be able to adjust if needed.

As with other aspects of ROI, communication is crucial here. You have to build connections and stay in touch with the executive team and business unit leaders. That way, you will have a chance to make security a part of each new project discussion — and an inseparable part of the implementation plan — from the very beginning.

Since you’re not the owner of a new business project, you cannot estimate the size of the returns on the opportunity overall. However, you don’t have to. I recommend referring to these new initiatives in your ROI conversations, but without trying to provide specific numbers.

Understanding the Concepts of Gantt Chart

Gantt charts:
Gantt chart is a type of bar chartthat illustrates a project schedule, named after its inventor, Henry Gantt
A Gantt chart is a project management tool that assists in planning and scheduling projects of all sizes, although they are beneficial for simplifying complex projects.
This chart lists the tasks to be performed on the vertical axis and time intervals on the horizontal axis. The width of the horizontal bars in the graph shows the duration of each activity.
This chart is constructed to aid in scheduling the activities (tasks) needed to complete a project
The charts show when an activity should begin and when it should end along a timeline.
Gantt charts can also reflect the resources assigned to each task and by what percent allocation.
Gantt charts can also be used to track the achievement of milestones or significant accomplishments for the project, such as the end of a project phase or completion of a key deliverable.
Progress of the entire project can be read from the Gantt chart to determine whether the project is behind, ahead, or on schedule compared to the baseline project plan
The advantage of using a Gantt chart is that it helps you monitor your project’s progress and set priorities.
The disadvantage of the Gantt chart is that it does not show the dependency of tasks to each other, and it does not show which tasks are ‘critical’ to finishing the project on time.
Gantt Chart is a reliable technique for estimating the scope and cost of a software development project
Here is an example of a Gantt chart:

Using SharePoint as a Knowledge

Can IT departments build a secure, compliant and usable knowledge management solution with Microsoft software? We’ll look at the advantages and disadvantages of using Microsoft SharePoint as a knowledge management system and what can be done to enhance and extend the platform’s capabilities.

Moreover, the results are often inconsistent. Tagging an entire content repository, file by file, is an immense undertaking that will most likely require many knowledge workers sharing the responsibility. Even if the organization makes its best effort to develop and communicate guidelines, every individual will naturally develop his or her interpretation and system for assigning metadata. If you are using managed taxonomies, workers are likely to simply choose the first tag in the list that is provided. If you are using user-driven metadata, it can get even worse. For example, one employee might use the tag “communication” while another favors “communique.” These kinds of semantic variations can produce confusion and inconsistency in search results and undermine the goal of streamlining a company’s knowledge assets to make them more orderly and discoverable.

Without additional configuration, SharePoint search lacks the ability to sort results by relevance, even if metadata has been diligently and consistently applied to the whole repository. This is because the keywords used in SharePoint metadata can’t adequately denote attributes such as data importance or sensitivity. Consequently, a search query based on keywords alone will return a range of results with varying degrees of importance, listed by age.

lowly helpdesk drone

We find our hero, a lowly helpdesk drone working for a company that manufacturers encrypted communication hardware. He’s sitting in his crappy office, in a crappy building, in a crappy part of a crappy state, in a crappy part of the country, idly contemplating the idea of packing up his personal crap, telling his boss what he really thinks of him, and leaving. Suddenly, a customer calls.

Our intrepid hero sighs, then answers the phone with his usual greeting. The caller turns out to be one of the company’s larger customers, who use the company’s devices for out-of-band management access to remotely deployed hardware at unmanned locations. Apparently, the server on which they housed the database containing all of the encryption keys and device configurations had suffered a catastrophic failure!

Our hero leaps into action and offers the customer a number of options for recovering the database from a backup. His customer pauses for a moment. A deep sigh comes through the phone, and the customer quietly admits that they have no backup of the database. He then asks our hero if there is any possible way to regain access to these devices, or perhaps remotely reset them. Our hero sadly informs the customer that without the encryption keys stored in the now unrecoverable database, any communication with the devices is wholly impossible until they are reset, which can only be done in person, on the device itself.

Infrastructure Protection

Vulnerability scanning and management — Open source databases track vulnerabilities in applications. The best application vulnerability management solutions do more than provide a risk score; they provide a remediation strategy and can even automatically remediate some issues for you.
Static application security testing — You can also analyze your applications for security issues.
Penetration testing — Pen testing analyzes your infrastructure from the viewpoint of a malicious It is particularly helpful for detection of misconfiguration and access management issues.
Software composition — Gather insight on the open-source applications in your network.
Change and configuration auditing — Monitoring all changes that could affect who can use particular applications and what those applications can access is also critical to security.

Cloud providers typically provide some tools for infrastructure protection, such as:
Log management
Anti-malware updates
Host-based intrusion detection
System integrity monitoring
Network segmentation (firewalls and antivirus)

To get a holistic view of your network from physical layer to application layer, you can use a network traffic analyzer, which bundles together:

Manage Site-Level Access in SharePoint

In addition to configuring tenant-wide sharing policies, you can further restrict external sharing for a specific SharePoint site. To do this, you must have global admin or SharePoint admin privileges. Site owners cannot change the external sharing setting for sites.
How to Change the External Sharing Setting for a Site
In the SharePoint admin center, go to Sites > Active Sites.
Select the checkbox next to the site name.
Click the “i” icon at the top right corner of the page.
Select the desired sharing level from the list of sharing options. These are the same four sharing options that are available for tenant-wide configuration.

Tip: The external sharing setting for a specific site has to be the same or more restrictive than the tenant-level setting. For example, if tenant-wide sharing is limited to Existing guests, the sharing setting for a specific site can be changed to Only people in your organization, but it cannot be changed to a more permissive option such as Anyone.

In another typical use case, a global or SharePoint admin needs to restrict external users in a certain network domain from accessing a specific site. For example, users from the Client A domain should not be able to access a site specifically designed for collaborative sharing with Client B.

From Food Service to IT

True or false: It takes several years to make a career change and get into IT, and you need a degree to do it.

The correct answer is “false.” In fact, new technologist Ian Clark went from food service to IT in just 6 months without a degree. He believes that if he can do it, so can anyone who is coachable, passionate about IT, hungry for a career change and willing to work hard for what they want. This sounds like a simple formula, but it worked for Clark and can work for you, as well

Ian Clark recently accepted an IT job with a Fortune 500 company, which he described as his dream job. But working for a Fortune 500 company is not what Clark saw for himself 3 years ago when he was living in a hotel.

Although he had a passion for cybersecurity and IT in general, he didn’t think he had the aptitude or the resources to get into IT. He soon stumbled across some books about leadership written by Mark Miller, vice president of high-performance leadership at Chick-Fil-A, and knew his next step was to work for the company Miller helped lead.

“I applied to every Chick-Fil-A in Texas, which is where I was living at the time, but no store was hiring,” Clark said. “Finally, I was offered a position at a mall unit in Iowa that offered a leadership program to high-achieving employees. I jumped on that opportunity, and it changed my life.”

Culture for an Agile Tech Workforce

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about seismic shifts in the global economy leaving many IT business leaders struggling to transform their organizations in response. This harsh lesson in the value of agility drives home the need for a workforce that continues to upskill, evolve, and drive innovation.

Learning in the post-pandemic workplace was the subject of the panel, “Preparing for the Future of Work with a Learning Culture,” held during CompTIA ChannelCon Online 2020, and moderated by Peter Busam of Equilibrium Consulting. Busam and the thought leader panelists outlined five takeaways for building an agile workforce.

Busam and the panelists discussed the connection between agility and learning culture. Kristine Stewart of Channel Impact pointed out that a learning culture inherently promotes agility because “it supports an open mindset, with a quest for knowledge, and that learning is directed towards the missions and goals of the organization.”

For a learning culture to develop and thrive, leaders need to “walk the walk”, not just “talk the talk.” Leaders should practice transparency and authenticity in their own learning paths, communicating how those paths connect to their personal growth and the goals of the business. Stewart added that, “culture set by those at the top of a company.”

Accelerating Partner Productivity

While establishing those processes, it’s important to remember that not all partners are the same, that partner models are evolving, and vendor/partner relationships are also changing.
“Partners are different sizes, how they go to market varies greatly. The challenge is to engage a wide range of partners, embrace their models and move forward,” Bixler said. “They’re transforming from product- and project-based models to more of a solutions-based approach. Recognize that the relationship has to change as well.”

The CAM 101 workshop leads participants through six modules:
Know Your Game and the Goal
Partner Alignment and Prioritization
Accelerating Partner Productivity
Understanding and Managing Multiple Channel Partner Goals
Marketing Through and with Channel Partners
Trends in Emerging Technology and Customer Experience

That strategy should include processes to build, manage and communicate across all partner levels, as well as plans to hold partners accountable for success too.
“Be a win-win advocate for your own business and your partners. You need the right skills and support from the company to do that,” Bixler said. “At the same time, I see a lot of CAMs shy about holding partners accountable, especially in onboarding. A key to success is to make sure partners are doing what you need them to do so you’re not doing everything. Come to the table with a program that allows them to do things on their own.”

Tips to Pass the CCIE Security Exam

It has been only a few years that the Cisco certifications have started to go off the charts and gain momentum and likability like never before. Suddenly there is too much in demand, and it has become a reference to classify the candidates' professional IT aptitude looking for an IT-oriented job. The CCIE, which is another certification offered by Cisco, is no different. CCIE certification means that the professional who has secured it has all the knowledge and technical skills required to design, implement, and configure the security detailing following the Cisco solutions and IT resources.

Their end task is to make sure that the networking or other systems that the company depends on to remain safe from all the devastations and hacking attempts proposed by hackers and cybercriminals. This is not an entry-level certification and is more professional looking then some professionals would be willing to give it credit for. CCIE security engineers are significantly in demand these days given the fact that the IT landscape is constantly under the threats of a cyber-breach or some other technical vulnerabilities, and security professionals are needed who can take care of these flaws well in advance.

As illustrated earlier, it is not that hard to pass the written exam provided that you have some raw knowledge of how networking works and have read a lot about the CCIE certification from Cisco handbooks or some other study material. The lab exam is the real deal, and this is what you need to prepare for. Try to do as much practice as you can and cover each and every topic in depth. Ask questions from your lab trainers when you run into some trouble and get your concepts in order.

Mistakes People Make in Job Interviews

After weeks of scouring the internet and using every single one of the job search tips you know, there’s nothing quite like the excited butterflies you get when you’re finally offered an interview.

In today’s job market, with COVID-19 still on the rise and unemployment rates double what they were this time last year, those who need a job are hard-pressed to find one. That’s why now, more than ever, it is absolutely vital that you do everything in your power to make sure you stand out and really wow the company reps conducting your interview.

Let’s take a look at five of the most common job interview mistakes so that you can make sure your interview starts — and ends — on the right foot.
1. Winging It

Your interview begins the second you hang up the phone or read the email telling you that the company wants to interview you. That small window between then and the day of your interview is precious time you need to prepare.

One of the most common mistakes that job candidates make is arriving at an interview, thinking they’ll just “wing” it. When those hard questions inevitably come up, their brain goes fuzzy, and they can’t think of a single example to share. They stumble through their answers and come off as uninterested, unintelligent, and unprepared.

stay up to date with cybersecurity trends

If you don’t currently have an Incident Response Plan (IRP) or haven’t revisited it in a while, this need will shift to your CISO-as-a-Service. Make sure this deliverable is part of their services. They can quickly develop an interim one, then work to craft a formal IRP and ensure all parties are aware of it and know their roles.

Cybersecurity threats are always evolving. Threat actors use sophisticated phishing techniques, and hackers deploy many attempts to penetrate networks. You need a team that has a pulse on what’s going on right now in the security world. Ask potential partners how they stay up to date and learn about new challenges, solutions, and tools.

Typically, CISO-as-a-Service isn’t one individual. Rather, it’s a team of experts that have knowledge in multiple areas. That’s certainly the model you want to find because it means you have access to a group of experts. But what helps is having one point of contact to discuss tasks and deliverables. A dedicated project manager helps keep things organized and streamlined so you’re always up to date.

CompTIA’s of global communities

Earlier this year, Gary Bixler, CompTIA’s vice president of global communities, led one of the weeklong sessions, relaying a number of tips and tricks for tech vendors to be more successful with their partners. Each class tackled different aspects of channel partnerships and provided proactive steps that vendors could take back to their respective companies.

The need to better understand your partner base was impressed upon Bixler several years ago when he worked for a global tech vendor. On a business trip to Singapore, Bixler visited a technology mall, common in the region, to talk with various partners selling his company’s products. Everywhere he went, his group was welcomed with open arms and the partners talked about the value of relationships. But after Bixler’s initial flight home was cancelled, he had an extra day and went back to the mall alone and dressed casually. It was a much different visit with the same partners.

“I tried to engage in conversations, but the salespeople refused to talk, refused to talk about selling our product. It was an eye-opening experience,” he said. “I thought I knew how our business was operating and how partners were engaging and supporting us in that region. I was missing some big things.”

What Is Penetration Testing?

First, it’s good to start with the basics. Penetration testing describes an authorized cyberattack on a network or system to evaluate the security of it. Those completing the test are emulating what a hacker may do to gain access to an application. There are three categories:
Black Box Penetration Testing: Ethical hackers have unauthenticated access and little knowledge except for an IP address or URL.
Gray Box Penetration Testing: Ethical hackers test target systems as authenticated users to see if they can obtain more user permissions.
White Box Penetration Testing: This option is for assessing a system or device with administrator access and knowledge. Organizations that develop their own products or integrate systems in their environment request this testing.

Impact of COVID-19

COVID-19 has had a significant effect on all business practices, including cybersecurity. Penetration testing performed before the pandemic may not be accurate now. You have more endpoints with remote work, greater adoption of cloud-based solutions, and the use of new tech tools like video conferencing platforms. It’s a good idea to conduct further testing now to ensure there aren’t new security challenges.

Cybersecurity Education Part of Your Culture

Your employees, unfortunately, are likely your weakest link when it comes to security. Most breaches or malware infections begin because of employee errors that aren’t intentional. They click on that suspicious email, and suddenly there’s an emergency.

To prevent that click and keep employees alert for phishing scams, provide them training on the subject. The training should be in-depth and interactive so that they know what to do should they receive such an email.

Also, include in this training things around password best practices and controlling access. For those working in the office, remind them to lock their screen if they leave their desk. For those working remotely, make sure they don’t allow others in the household to use the device that has access to secure information.

The security and protection of your data, network, and infrastructure should be top of mind every month. During Cybersecurity Awareness Month, it’s a good time to reflect on what you’re doing well and other practices that should be a priority.

Linux on AWS: Things You Can Do

The AWS Free Tier gives you a lot to work with. Coupled with the “free” nature of most Linux operating systems, this means there is plenty you can build at no dollar cost. For those of you looking to get hands-on experience with Linux operating systems, the 750 monthly hours of EC2 t2.micro or t3.micro instances for 12 months is useful.

Because there are only 744 hours in 31 days, you should be able to get as much access as you need over the course of a year. Coupled with comparable free storage and database server options, you can build out a variety of projects to help sharpen your skills. Further, aspiring security pros can run Kali on the AWS free tier.

What works best for you will depend on your situation and needs. If you want to get familiar with cloud computing and Linux at the same time, AWS is solid. If you just want to tinker with a new operating system locally, it may make more sense to install VirtualBox. Similarly, if you want to scan local devices, you’ll probably want to run Kali at home and not in the cloud. The takeaway here is simple: consider the tradeoffs and pick what works best for you.

Best Cities for Tech Jobs

Once upon a time technology jobs were found in clusters around traditional tech hot spots. If you dreamed of working in tech, moving out west was the only place to be. But in recent years, the definition of a technology hub has changed – and the locales have greatly expanded. For instance, cities like Austin, Dallas, Raleigh and Charlotte all rank in the top 5 best cities for tech jobs on CompTIA’s recently released 2020 Tech Town Index. But there’s more to the story this year.

Say what you want about 2020. This year has changed all of us – and the technology industry is no exception. One of the most notable changes for IT pros is the remote workforce factor. While remote work has been on the tech sector’s radar for at least a decade, during COVID-19 the demand for remote IT workers increased with the number of job postings nearly doubling.

Of course, that begs the question: if you could work from anywhere, where would you live? And where would you make the most money? Let’s dive into the CompTIA Tech Town Index using CompTIA’s new IT Salary Calculator to identify in-demand IT careers and salaries and how location plays into the equation.

What Is an Incident Response Plan

Prepare for the inevitable: you are going to be the victim of a cyberattack. That attack could be a major cybersecurity incident using sophisticated hacks, malware or a possible data breach. Regardless of the scope or type of incident and the affected systems, having a planned and tested incident response process is key to preventing further damage and ensuring business continuity.

You may need a full-fledged computer security incident response team (CSIRT) to handle this type of action. More likely, existing IT staff and front-line employees will need to know how to handle an attack to ensure business continuity operations.

An effective incident response (IR) plan is a combination of people, process and technology that is documented, tested and trained toward in the event of a security breach. The purpose of the incident response plan is to prevent data and monetary loss and to resume normal operations.

Hiring for Entry Level IT Jobs

While more safely insulated from the economic fallout of the pandemic than other industries, IT has still seen its fair share of downs to go with all of its many ups.

Consider the most recent job market numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as analyzed by CompTIA:

“The tech sector recorded its second consecutive month of employment growth, adding an estimated 12,900 net new workers in both technical and non-technical positions. The IT services and custom software development category led the way in job gains … [However,] the industry’s employment growth was countered by an unexpected loss of 324,000 tech occupation jobs.”

If that latter part seems bad, here’s a little more good for you: In comparison to the national unemployment rate of 7.9%, unemployment for information technology careers is just 3.5%.

But if you’re a job seeker, these statistics don’t paint the full picture. Exactly what companies are hiring right now, and for which specific roles? Has the new emphasis on remote work changed companies’ hiring processes? Has it changed what they’re looking for in their candidates?

A consultant needs to understand the various means by which a hacker can get access to the system. This will help them introduce better defense measures.

Firewalls Antimalware and operating systems

Operating systems like Linux or Windows are widely used in the end systems and are most vulnerable. The knowledge of advanced firewalls and malware detection systems will help the consultant choose an optimal architecture for the client. An efficient configuration of these systems will make all the difference in safeguarding the internal network from breaches and attacks

cyber security education

There is no question that there is a serious need for cyber security education right now. Learning about cyber security can help protect your information and prevent your company from facing major consequences in the future. Phoenix TS offers courses that can help you do just that. Their online Cyber Security Awareness course provides a general overview of cybersecurity and how to protect systems while teleworking. The course tackles how to recognize cyber attacks and the correct actions to take when an attack has occurred. Those who participate in the course will learn about different types of cyber attackers, who they attack and their motivations for attacking. After that, students will be introduced to common cyber-attacks for teleworkers. For instance, the students will be able to view real life examples of phishing, watering holes, and man in the middle attacks. These real-life examples will demonstrate ways to identify these different attacks so that teleworkers know what it is that they are looking for. Finally, the students will learn about defenses for teleworkers and incident response.

Unfortunately, we do not know when social distancing will end. The spread of the COVID-19 virus has made teleworking the new norm. It is important that you stay informed and ensure that you and your company stay protected.

the user’s DevOps systems

A detailed reflection on the components of the interplay between ChatOps and bots can showcase the foundation of the benefits of chatbots in DevOps. The foremost component of ChatOps is the collaboration tool or the chat app. The front-end chat system helps in connecting different stakeholders while supporting them in mutual interactions and with associated systems.

Chatbots are the second most important component in the ChatOps concept and are basically the central tool that holds everything in place. The chatbots facilitate an easy connection between the collaboration tool and the user’s DevOps systems. Chatbots provide a two-way communication channel for fetching desired information from systems and act accordingly.

The chatbots act as the missing link between the collaboration tool of your choice and DevOps tools such as AWS Lex, Hubot, ErrBot, or Lita. The final component in ChatOps is the target platform or the infrastructure. Chatbots in DevOps should have the capability for integration with the desired target platforms.

Domain-specific bots have been trained specifically with skills for a particular domain with the capabilities to understand human requirements effectively. The domain-specific bots interpret the context of a series of commands and respond to users for obtaining specific information associated with the command to perform a specific action.

Gain Work-Related Experience

You can earn 3 CEUs per year (9 per renewal cycle) for work experience related to your certification. You will need to submit a letter from your employer on company letterhead containing the following info: name, job title, date, tasks you performed, and signature of supervisor.
Sample Re-certification Paths for Security+

In the section below we will explore some sample re-certification (based on our options above) paths for renewing the Security+. In each option below we are achieving 50 CEU points which is the required amount to renew our Security+.

There are essentially two routes to renewing the CompTIA certification:
Training or Certifying
Misc IT-related Activities

Career IT Professionals should be training and certifying at least once a year to keep their skills relevant and to progress up the IT career ladder; so the renewal process should be fairly simple for them. Employers will most likely pick up the tab for the training and the exam voucher. Non IT workers who need to maintain certification can consider either a training class every three years or a mix of various IT-related activities. If you are going this route, then it is wise to plan your activities in advance.

Talent Poaching on the Rise

While a limited candidate pool will drive wage growth, channel organizations need to make sure that compensation levels are in line with market trends and sustainable for the long term.
Saxton stated, “A lot of engineers are able to freelance and do consultancy, which has a significant impact in terms of what they demand for salary and pay, and that’s something we’re working on... [But] it doesn’t stay sustainable. You can’t keep paying all of these salaries, so we find a blend that works for everybody.”

5. Create IT apprenticeship programs to build your own talent pipeline.

Some managed service/solution providers, vendors and distributors create IT apprenticeship programs to nurture their own talent for technician, developer, engineer and analyst roles.

“We’ve seen quite an uptick in the traction of talent in apprenticeships. Great way to bring in younger talent. We’re seeing lots of recruitment at entry-level roles,” Hansford said.

Robust apprenticeship programs offer accelerated IT professional training that few schools and colleges can offer.

Saxton noted, “We’ve been doing [apprenticeships] for seven years now. Fifty-seven percent of our apprentices come from our outreach schools. Of that 57 percent, 100 percent move into management. [Those] students and young people we’ve worked with over the course of a few years move directly to senior and management roles in the business.”

How to Source the Right IT Talent

How can solution providers, vendors and distributors be strategic in sourcing the right IT talent for short- and long-term business needs? Hansford and Saxton shared their insights.

1. Reprioritize current projects based on existing skills.

Business leaders should reprioritize current projects based on talent they have now.

“We’ve had to rejig our priorities. We’ve had to reharmonize our talent in terms of having the right blend of individuals with the right skills to support cloud basics,” Saxton shared.

2. Reskill existing roles for core functions.

To support core business functions or mission-critical projects, IT companies are redeveloping the talent they already have.

Hansford said, “We’re seeing more and more people reskilling from roles that aren’t core or maybe don’t have a medium- or long-term future as part of the company’s business strategies. They’re reskilling roles before they’re looking to let people go.”

3. Identify skills gaps for future business needs.

In a business crisis like a pandemic or economic recession, it’s tempting to focus only on pressing recruitment needs.

“What we’ve seen is a lot of people retract. Retract to core business. Retract to business as usual… A lot of companies in the moment are in survival mode or recovery mode. They’re not looking at the bigger picture,” Hansford noted.

Hiring managers should devote time and energy to identifying skills gaps for future business needs. These skill gaps represent where companies need to grow their talent pipeline, starting now.

Additional Certification Paths

CISSP certification is not where this path ends as the IISSCC also offers three advanced-level certifications for individuals who want to further specialize in different niches related to cybersecurity. These certifications are available in architecture (CISSP-ISSAP), engineering (CISSP-ISSEP) or management (CISSP-ISSMP). Apart from the CISSP certification itself, appearing in these advanced level certifications requires two relevant years of further experience in jobs related to these niche domains.
Can Someone Gain The Certification Without The Relevant Five Year Experience?

Yes, absolutely. Its definitely possible to appear in the CISSP exam without having the relevant work experience, however, you will have to acquire the required experience within 6 years of passing the exam. Until then, you won’t get the CISSP certification credential, instead, you will achieve the Associate of ISC2 certification.
CISSP Earning Benefits:

According to Payscale.com, individuals holding that CISSP certification in addition to 5-9 years of job experience will have an average salary of around $102,591, which is definitely on the higher side, but it’s not unusual. Cybersecurity is one of the most important domains for firms to focus on in today’s high-risk environment and individuals with a relevant skillset that’s validated by a top-notch certification are the ones that firms are actively looking out for. It’s this high demand that’s fueling the above-average salaries for individuals with CISSP certification.

Cybersecurity and a Remote Workforce

Looking at the current and future ideas of how and where we work, it’s evident that much is changing. Being in one physical space with peers isn’t necessary to communicate and collaborate. While remote work got a boost in adoption due to COVID-19, remote work will continue post-pandemic. However, concern still lingers in the minds of businesses — cybersecurity and remote work.
The Transition to a Mobile Workforce

Before the pandemic, remote work was already a popular way to provide a more flexible experience for employees. The growth in remote work was 44 percent in the last five years. That’s significant growth, but many employers had hesitations and concerns. Would a remote team be productive? Would they be able to collaborate? And what about security?

Whatever barriers keeping some companies from offering remote work fell when it became evident, they needed to protect their employees’ health. Although these companies made the shift, they are still catching up and addressing new cybersecurity and remote work challenges. The most worrisome is converting a cybersecurity framework from a central network and retooling it to fit a distributed work model. There are now more endpoints for hackers to penetrate.

CompTIA Shares Expertise and Advice at Jobs

Despite high unemployment, there remains strong demand for IT professionals. As the country looks to get millions of unemployed individuals back to work, reskilling displaced workers and training them for careers in IT is a solution many states and organizations are pursuing.
On the “Industry Deep Dive: Rapid Reskilling: Is Your IT Program Prepared to Train and Support Displaced Workers” session during the recent Jobs for the Future Horizons 2020 conference, two CompTIA executives shared recommendations and insights on the current landscape, what skills are in demand and the available resources to help fill the IT jobs pipeline.

James Stanger, Chief Technology Evangelist, explained that while many companies are being very cautious with spending, they do realize if they want to stay in business, they’ve got to offer the services customers expect. “One of the drivers we are seeing take place is smaller managed service providers who need to support other companies are hiring. We are also seeing larger tech companies – pure tech companies – hire AWS and Microsoft Azure expertise.”

According to Mark Plunkett, Senior Director, Training Operations & Business Development, there’s also a need for more people filling the top of the funnel. “As we look at individuals upskilling and taking some of these jobs, we need to fill the funnel because there were over a million IT occupation jobs added in Q1. In fact, prior to COVID-19, there was a massive shortage of people entering the tech industry.”

Block Phishing in IoT Devices

Since we all use the web regularly, the most common medium we use to access it is an internet browser. And cybercrooks, due to their malicious nature, have found several mechanisms to deceive the innocent and unsuspecting users into providing sensitive information through phishing. This method works when a cyber crook makes a fake SMS, video, phone call, or shopping site that offers goods, products, or services at very unbelievable prices. But when a user enters their personal information, like credit card or other payment information, it goes straight into the hands of web-hackers who then use this for their very own personal usage. Then the innocent buyer never receives anything that they ordered. However, cyber professionals have deemed artificial intelligence as a countermeasure for this hacking method.

Data leaks and identity theft nowadays are on the rise, as the passing time has very much revealed the shocking fact that the number of such cyber-attacks is only increasing over time. As humans, we are not perfect, and we also keep forgetting very important things in our lives. The same goes for when it comes to the protection of data/information like our passwords for our different accounts, including social media, bank accounts, and so on. Since we keep the usage of the same passwords for too long that the chances of it being break/cracked by cyber-crooks increase. Or simply sometimes we keep a device logged-in with our info, and someone else physically takes the device and can see our private information. But with the use and implementation of AI, this problem is hugely reduced as Artificial Intelligence automatically determines that a password of an account is being used for too long, and it is time to change, keeping the user reminding that changing-passcodes regularly is vital for information-safeguarding. Similarly, if an account is open and someone tries to change, edit or modify info/data the Artificial Intelligence parameters are automatically triggered that asks the users to re-verify their passcodes, hence protecting the user from ID/data theft.

CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA+) Jobs

Before we dig deep into these job roles, let’s take a high-level view of how CompTIA CySA+ prepares IT pros for these positions. Right off the bat, it’s important to note that CompTIA exams are developed through an intensive process that includes workshops where IT pros come together and discuss what knowledge, skills and abilities are required to perform certain job roles. So, you can be sure the topics covered by CompTIA CySA+ match the knowledge, skills and abilities cybersecurity pros need today.

For example, to be successful in any of the above listed cybersecurity jobs, an individual should be able to do the following:
Leverage intelligence and threat detection techniques
Analyze and interpret data
Identify and address vulnerabilities
Suggest preventative measures
Effectively respond to and recover from incidents

It’s no coincidence that these skills are exactly what CompTIA CySA+ covers. (Check out the exam objectives for yourself – they’re free!) Companies are looking to hire qualified IT pros that can confidently handle these tasks to bring new techniques for combating threats inside and outside of the security operations center (SOC) – and the median salaries for these position back that up.

Today’s Security Transformation

Industry research firm Gartner asked cybersecurity thought leaders to submit a video of themselves answering the question “What are your customers’ top security priorities?” for the Gartner Security & Risk Management Summit, a virtual event for the EMEA region held this month. Julian Waits, general manager of cybersecurity for Devo, was among those to whom Gartner posed the question. His video is below, and this blog post offers an expanded version of his response.

I regularly speak with CISOs and other security leaders who are Devo customers and ask them about their priorities. Three topics consistently appear at the top of their lists: people, visibility, and automation.
People:
CISOs and other enterprise security leaders know that security operations center (SOC) analysts have one of the most challenging jobs in cybersecurity: keeping their organizations safe from a vast array of cyberthreats. The biggest challenge for SOC analysts—and those who manage them—is fatigue. SOCs must run 24 hours a day/7 days a week. With so many people working from home due to the pandemic, new threat vectors are appearing daily. The number of alerts is immeasurable. That’s why SOC analysts must be at the top of their game—every day.

WE INNOVATE WITHOUT A LARGE BUDGET

The great news is that any organization can innovate without spending a lot of money. Providing mock-ups or prototypes of a potential innovation at the start of any process can help promote discussions both internally and externally to refine and expand upon requirements, allow teams to rapidly iterate, and improve upon the products and services in development. The sooner we can provide a prototype or beta version that people can review, the sooner we can figure out whether our idea has market viability. If it doesn’t, it’s better to learn that lesson at the outset and avoid wasting further time, money, and energy trying to bring it to market.

To add to the idea of not needing a large budget (or hire and train lots of internal staff), we don’t need to stick to the bounds of our own organization for ideas. Plenty of organizations use experts and research outside of their organizations to come up with ideas – what’s termed open or crowd-sourced innovation. Bill Joy, former chief scientist at Sun Microsystems, says, “No matter how many smart people you have, most of the smartest people are never in your own company.” The more ideas we come up with and investigate, regardless of whether they originate within our own organization (or even our own industry), the better. Proctor & Gamble, for example, has 7,500 R&D researchers on staff and developed a “Connect and Develop” program that enlists the help of 1.5 million (non-employee) scientists globally to solve customer needs and come up with innovative solutions. It’s been so successful that, today, nearly half of P&G’s product development portfolio and products on the market have come from their C&D program. So, knowing that we don’t have to spend a ton of money or hire a huge team of people, how can we improve our organization’s ability to innovate? We will look at that topic next.

What kind of preparation does an employee need

Employees can prepare for Cisco CCNA Collaboration certification in a number of ways. However, professional training is a great way to equip them with the knowledge and skills to accomplish your goals.

Other than reading online materials and books online, they will need lab practice. In the world of networking, you can’t learn anything effectively without practicing it in the lab. For every topic and concept they learn, do it in a lab and repeat. Additionally, you could help administer attempt mock tests and see how your team is performing before you enroll them for the real Cisco CCNA certification test.

Robust Network Support: Network managers reported reduced support costs by about 30 percent after hiring Cisco certified staff. Having a certified in-house employee with adequate tech knowledge and skills to maintain network infrastructures means substantial savings when things go south.

Reduced Down Time and Improved Customer Satisfaction: The additional benefit of companies having in-house certified talent is that it reduces network downtime by up to 37 percent. This enhances company efficiency and saves costs. More importantly, customer satisfaction is significantly improved. Managers actually reported a 37 percent improvement in customer satisfaction with Cisco certified employees.

DIGITAL BUSINESS HAS DIFFERENT NEEDS

What makes a digital business and its requirements from IT so different? For starters, an unexpected department within the business may be running the digital transformation initiative. For example, the digital transformation initiatives of several of our clients are run by the Marketing department. In these cases, Marketing is not only in charge of the business aspects of the initiative, they are also spearheading product development, which includes managing third-party software development of the customer-facing digital product and contractor stand-up of a cloud-based data analytics platform.

Why Marketing? Because fundamentally digital business is about more than just using the latest technologies . . . it’s about leveraging digital technologies in a way that fundamentally changes the way the business operates, the way it interacts with and learns from its customers, and the way it maneuvers competitors into undesirable positions of playing catch-up. Accomplishing any of these is dependent upon a speed of execution not commonly found in IT. Indeed, a common business accusation is that “IT Is Too Slow.” By the time many IT departments configure a system, code new software, or build a website, the original need for the software or system has changed. Customers are fickle, and in the digital era incrementally rolling out small functionality improvements and “good enough” features trumps completeness and long-term product roadmaps. The cousin of speed is flexibility, and this is also a pre-requisite for a digital business to be successful. What is popular with customers this quarter may be largely forgotten in six months, so excessive effort creating something new or undue attachment to what worked in the past often gets in the way of profitable innovation.

Social Engineering Comes Front and Center

For one, COVID-19 has shed new light on the social engineering abilities of cybercriminals, who are taking advantage of the staying power of the pandemic in news cycles. Employees and consumers are still apt to click on a malicious link that purports to offer new information or insight into the coronavirus, said David Emm, principal security researcher at Kaspersky.

“Social engineering has always been one of the key attack vectors. What COVID-19 provides is a more persistent topic [than] Black Friday or the Olympics. Plus, you have a huge pool of potential victims [impacted by COVID-19], so it’s the perfect storm,” Emm said. “Criminals’ approach has pretty much been the same, but a lot of people have been forced to work from home. Here in the UK, it’s about 48%. That’s a lot of people who don’t have the protective ring of a corporate network around them.”

For example, phishers have pretended to be the World Health Organization offering information on the virus, or a delivery company with status on an order, or an agency giving out assistance to people—all of which can cause people to become curious and open malicious links.

Merium Khalid, senior cybersecurity analyst at SKOUT Cybersecurity, noted a marked increase in the number of legitimate documents and software platforms and websites that have PDFs embedded with malicious links—noting that it’s also estimated that 18 million COVID-19 phishing emails are being blocked each day.

Advanced-Level Cybersecurity Certification

IT pros can pursue CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP+) to prove their mastery of cybersecurity skills required at the 5- to 10-year experience level. CASP+ is the pinnacle of cybersecurity certifications and includes performance-based questions.

It is intended for those who wish to remain immersed in hands-on enterprise security, incident response and architecture, for example, as opposed to strictly managing cybersecurity policy and frameworks.

The primary related job roles are security engineers and security architects, but CompTIA CASP+ can also help validate skill sets necessary for digital forensics analysts and network enterprise architects.

For instance, a digital forensic analyst must be able to support the development of organizational forensics policies, analyze the security implications of forensics results and implement analysis of compromised systems, which are covered by CASP+.

Likewise, a network enterprise architect has to be able to analyze existing networks and determine the security components, concepts and architectures needed to make it more secure to meet regulatory cybersecurity compliance requirements. CompTIA CASP+ assesses this knowledge.

there bundles of the new CompTIA A+

Almost everyone loves the bundles because they cut down costs that one would spend under normal circumstances. As for the new series, one should also expect them. Though bundles vary from one selection to another, let’s mention a few components. Expect retake vouchers, and training materials vouchers. The latter usually include the official study guide, labs and practice. As of now, the cheapest will go for $300.

If you heed the advice, your certification will remain valid. Some training tools can help. Search the online reliable platforms that offer training materials, along with training tools that will ace your skills and would serve you as the best way to update your certification. With a proper preparation for the exams you will be able to get the certification easily.

Why is it Important to Have CASP Certified IT Workers?

It is a well-known fact that businesses now must take cyber security very seriously. Every business must institute policies and practices that protect its critical assets from cyber-attacks. However, this is a rapidly evolving concern for every business and without good understanding of what the business is dealing with, costs can quickly rack up and defeat the business case for cyber security measures.

As businesses continue to seek new solutions for cyber threats and seek new talents to help them implement these solutions, they must do so with a plan. Devoid of this, businesses would rack up costs on redundant solutions while leaving themselves exposed by missing the bigger picture.

CASP validates all the technical skills and knowledge required to develop, design and implement solutions across various complex business environments. The course then goes a step further to help the leader use critical thinking and judgment skills across a broad range of IT security disciplines. With this training, your IT professionals should be in a position to develop and implement cyber security solutions that not only map enterprise drivers but also manage risk.

On top of that, the course is vendor neutral. Therefore, your employees can work with software and hardware from various sources as need be. It is also compliant under the Federal Information Security Act which is almost a requirement for a business that works with the government.

Network+ Certification Background

CompTIA has been offering industry standard certification for over 20 years, and has granted 2 million IT certifications in that time. The Network+ certification was created by CompTIA and accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in 2008. When granted the Network+ certification, it is good for 3 years. After 3 years, there is a recertification requirement to take the latest exam in order to stay up-to-date. CompTIA describes Network+ as an entry-level certification, which is partially true. I would not pick up the book, read it and feel like you could take the test and be certified. I believe it is good to have at least some familiarity with networking and the different kinds of equipment before you take this on; it will definitely help with keeping pace with your training.

Training Available
There is an abundance of training available for the Network+ certification. At ASM, we offer a bundle of Network+ / A+ or A+/Network+/Security+. As a Network+ certified professional, you will demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:
Design and implement functional networks
Configure, manage, and maintain essential network devices
Use devices such as switches and routers to segment network traffic and create resilient networks
Identify benefits and drawbacks of existing network configurations
Implement network security, standards, and protocols
Troubleshoot network problems
Support the creation of virtualized networks

It is imperative that you find a good training course led by a qualified training instructor. At ASM we provide many training options and course formats including Virtual ILT classrooms (WebEx) and live in person classroom.

IT Roundtable Enabling

In March, IT departments around the world jumped into action when companies announced that employees would begin working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Here, CompTIA’s IT team, including Robert Rohrman, vice president,

IT Infrastructure; Edgar Flores, senior manager, network operations; and Wendell Thacker, manager, network operations, talks with Seth Robinson, senior director, technology analysis, about the challenges that many companies faced, best practices for IT departments, and recommendations moving forward to enable productivity and secure remote work environments.

Seth Robinson: The situation everyone found themselves in was needing to quickly connect employees from home, and that was not a goal a lot of companies had before. Can you describe what this shift was like for IT departments?

Robert Rohrman: If every staff member in your company already had the ability to work from home, the COVID-19 challenge—for IT teams—was relatively small. But if your company didn’t, quick action was necessary.

There are multiple strategies on how to enable remote work. IT teams had to look at their companies holistically and then from the employee perspective. What did they need to do their jobs and what technologies were out there to do those things remotely? The IT staff also needed to consider security—what was a company willing to accept as a risk? Then they needed to pick a solution and implement it.

Shadow IT has always been an issue

Shadow IT has always been an issue even before the pandemic hit. Employees who are always looking for more effortless ways to do their job are known to use unsanctioned apps from time to time. Sure, not all apps pose security risks, but a data breach might need only having a single employee use a malware-infested application.

What’s even worse is that IT departments might not know that employees are using these unsanctioned apps. When employees were working in the office, it was easier to spot the use of unsanctioned apps.

However, with more employees working remotely, they have the freedom to design their work environment, and this includes the apps they can use. Sure, IT departments might offer a list of sanctioned apps, but most employees will use other alternatives if the sanctioned ones can’t make their work easier.

IT departments can tame this menace by containerizing their corporate data on employee’s devices and involving employees in picking the ideal organizational tools for their jobs. Besides giving you more control over what employees can do with corporate data, containerization un-complicates most security complexities that come with remote work.

Certifications Could Get You

Many individuals attain an entry-level certification like ITIL or CompTIA A+ so that they can get a start into a ground floor IT job. Then, they can go back, finish their degree, earn a few more certifications, and put themselves in the best position possible for work in an intermediate or advanced field like networking or even cyber security.

Colleges have even started recognizing certifications as counting toward credit. The American Council on Education gives ACE CREDIT recommendations by reviewing educational institutions and recommending their courses as being the equivalent of college credit at universities and colleges. This is the case for 14 LeaderQuest courses.

In addition to ACE, there are formal agreements between training providers and certain colleges to offer specific credit in return for classes. This is the case for CSU-Global and LeaderQuest, who have formed an agreement for LeaderQuest certification classes translating directly into college credit.

What’s the upshot of all of this? You can get started on a career while earning college credit. Classic two birds one stone scenario!
